Fruit Popsicles and Mug Cake

Since I was trying to eat healthy food, I have been depriving myself from eating desserts. Good thing I found popsicle trays at Daiso.  I got this urge to immediately use it. As a start, I made fruit popsicles.

This is fairly easy. I bought watermelon, avocado and mango. I chopped the fruits finely and layer them.

I also made popsicle made with purely mangoes.

I guess fruits are good for the heart.

My 21-day No Junk Food Challenge ended on Valentine’s day. I wanted to try this mug cake recipe.

Preparation time is less than 5 minutes and you only need to microwave it for 70 seconds.   This is how it looks inside the mug.

013

I removed the caked from the mug and did something with the presentation.

014

It is actually good. Can you see the lizard keeping an eye on the chocolate cake?

True to its name, it is really moist.

I want to try other mug cake recipes!

Happy Valentine’s Day: #10daysofcrushing

Happy Valentine’s Day! I have combined my love for food, photography and lettering in this photo. My next post will be about that popsicle in the photo.  I did  the lettering  on paper, took a picture and did some tweaks on Photoshop.

On Instagram, Fozzy started the hashtag #10daysofcrushing. If you join, you post a line from a song or a quote for your crush once a day for ten days.  Although I do not have a crush, I wanted to join to practice lettering, typography and calligraphy.  On the first day, I already listed  the lines from the song. There is nothing romantic about the process but it did bring me back to those kilig (rough translation: giddy, smitten) moments  when I had a crush on someone.

Before I even knew Fozzy’s #10daysofcrushing, I already posted this one on Facebook because I kept singing Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud in my head.  I posted this on Instagram a little later.

027

Since I only own a 0.04 mm technical pen, I thought about just sketching the next song line. I have always loved melody of this song. It makes me happy.

031

Since I also see a lot of watercolor calligraphy, I wanted to try, too. My strokes are a little shaky.

036

I love this song from the movie, “Anastasia”. My friend, Erns, introduced us to this song. For me, this talks about friendship more than romantic love because it was the theme song I used for the photo montage in one trip with friends.

040

I found  sample sketches of flowers as embellishments to graphics. I wanted practice so this is the output.

047

I wanted variations in the style I post everyday so I came up with this design.  The dried rose is just an added touch.

053

While rummaging though my drawer, I found a purple pen so I wanted to use it this time.

Finally, I got my brush pen from Daiso but I think I incorrectly inserted the ink. I might use up all the ink soon.  Uh-oh.

1 (8)

I  am still in the process of learning how to do good calligraphy.  It is fun to combine it with regular handwriting.

1 (9)

I ended the exercise with my own handwriting. This is my penmanship when I try so hard to make it nice.  hehe

1 (10)

I suddenly thought of writing all those lines into one poem.

That maybe we found love right where we are
And I’m sailing through the sea to an island where we’ll meet
We can be them two birds of a feather that flock together
Unexpected, what you did to my heart
Though you never knew it was of you I’ve been dreaming
Who knows how long I’ve loved you, you know I love you still
Lately, I’ve been, I’ve been losing sleep, dreaming about the things that we could be
And who knows I might feel better if I don’t try and I don’t hope
And I know it’s only in my mind that I’m talking to myself and not to him
A totally amazing mind, so understanding and so kind.
You’re everything to me.

It does not make sense!

Hope your Valentine’s day does.

===== Addendum

Priscilla flipped around the lines to add sense to the  entire “poem”. Pretty cool!

New Hobby: Lettering and Calligraphy

If you happen to read my list of 25 things I plan to do in 2015, you know that 3rd on the list is to learn lettering and calligraphy. I had to start somewhere. I have a calligraphy pen staring at me, waiting for me to do something creative. I started practicing but I was an impatient creature. So I googled and googled on different styles which led me to Abbey Sy, a letterer extraordinaire.  I figured that I would just practice freestyle lettering since I still do not own the type of calligraphy tool that can give the kind of beautiful calligraphy I wanted. (Yes, excuses, excuses.)

I found an opportunity to experiment with my greetings for my cousin, Ghia.  By the way, Ghia is an excellent instagrammer that the Columbus Museum of Art included one of her photos in an exhibit there.

023

I found another opportunity to explore the art of lettering when Fozzy Dayrit, my calligraphy idol, started #10daysofcrushing.  You need to post on instagram lines for songs  or quotes that you would dedicate to a crush. It is easier to practice with the lines from the songs since you do not have to think of cool words to practice on.  I started with this one.

027

On the second day, I want to use a different style to the lines. I came up with this one.

031

I got a lot of ribbing from my friends for the “in love”  quotes.  Yes, I am in love…. with lettering!

I thought of using watercolor so this happened.

036

And to avoid the teasing and still enjoy lettering, I made one with one of my favorite bible verses.

042

You can see that I am really enjoying this. These are more of the #10daysofcrushing I did.

056b

I did a lot of practice and planning to come up with the ‘designs’.

053b

There is so much to learn. I am just trying to wing this one. I get ideas from Google, Instagram and Pinterest.  My friend also recommended a classic calligraphy book and I still need to look for a copy.  Calligraphy is a little technical.  There are measurements  and consistency of  strokes to look out for. Lettering is a bit more  flexible but I noticed that the output is cleaner and impressive when one incorporates the techniques of calligraphy into lettering.

I am off to do more!  The #10daysofcrushing is not yet done. For more lettering, follow me on Instagram.

The Road to Fitness

Since the start of 2014, I have been regularly exercising. I exercised twice to thrice a week. It was a simple 17-minute Zumba routine for flat abs.  I also did standing abs workout by Fitness Blender as an alternative. I guess by now you know where my problem area is. I can see some cuts on my abs trying to form a six-pack. Or so I thought. The tummy area was still prominent. The fitness regimen was in preparation for a climb. My friends and I were supposed to climb Mt. Kinabalu last June. Then, May came where fiestas and homecoming abound. I did not exercise for a month and I ate to my heart’s delight.

September came and I turned another year older and I felt I need a fresh start with fitness.  I exercised regularly and I stopped drinking coke.  I followed three exercise videos for  some time.

In case you want to try them, these are the youtube videos I follow:

I lost 5 pounds off my weight and 2 inches of my waistline. The holiday season came and for two weeks, I allowed myself to drink coke and enjoy some good food. I did not gain a lot so I am off to a good start in 2015

I never felt alone in my fitness journey. I am inspired by my friends, Grace, Shirly, May and Roselle, who are very determined to be fit and healthy. For the exercise routine, I tried other variations to keep it interesting. I tried Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred but I did not last long. I do not like workouts that involve me lying on the floor. Hopefully, that will change in time. I also tried Shaun T’s FOCUS T25 Base Kit – DVD Workout. I was out of breath and my legs hurt after. I was not willing to do the routine again.

My friend, Grace, posted a video of herself in her workout routine. It looked like something I can do. It was Les Mills Combat DVD Workout. I tried it and I love it. The routine is not that physically demanding but I sweat profusely after the workout. The workout is good for 60 days with 5 different routines.  The routines are combinations of boxing, taekwondo and karate.  There are also burpees, pushups (which I cannot do) and other exercise routine that I do not like.  I still try them or replace them with jogging in place. I listen to my body. I try not to push too hard that would result to injury.

This is the schedule I am following.

Les Mills Combat_02 60 Day Supreme Warrior Calendar

I thank my friend, Grace, for introducing me to this workout. I am currently on my 6th day.  So far, I am feeling good about this workout. Wish me luck!

How about you?  Do you follow a fitness regimen?

Guide To Winterizing A Boat

winterize boat

Shortly before winter arrives, you must follow a few steps to protect your boat. By winterizing your vessel, it will operate more efficiently when spring arrives the following year.

Winterizing Procedures

In the winter, a boat should not be stored on the water. It should be placed in a dry storage area that is designed for a boat. If you don’t have access to a storage space, simply cover your boat with shrink-wrap. Although using shrink-wrap can be a bit expensive, the material can provide efficient protection throughout the winter.

The boat’s fuel tank should be slightly below its maximum capacity. The extra space is important because the tank will expand.

Inspect the boat’s hub and propeller thoroughly. If a component is dented or damaged, replace it or perform the repairs.

If there is dirt or grime on the boat, remove it with a soft sponge or washcloth. Typically, you can clean a boat with soap while it is docked at a local marina. However, because different states have different rules, check with the proper authorities before beginning the cleaning process.

A boat must be prepped for the winter season. By implement the proper procedures, the vessel will run smoothly in the spring. For more information about boat maintenance products, click here.
